Daval is a second generation, family-run business that is still proudly owned and managed by the family that started it in 1978.

Tell us a little about your business, it’s history and what makes it unique.. 

The KBB Company is a family-run independent kitchen and bedroom specialist based in Musselburgh, Edinburgh. Established in 1991 by our managing director, Gordon Greig, we have spent more than 30 years helping homeowners create beautifully designed, functional living spaces.

Originally trading as The Mirror Door Studio, we began by manufacturing, designing and installing sliding wardrobes before expanding into bespoke kitchens and fitted bedrooms. Today, every project is designed, managed and installed by our own experienced team, many of whom have been with us for decades. As a family business, those values extend throughout the company, with several members of our wider team also working alongside family members. That continuity, shared commitment and pride in what we do gives our customers confidence that they’ll receive expert guidance and a seamless experience from concept to completion.

What inspired you to enter the KBB industry, and what do you enjoy most about it? 

The business began with a passion for creating fitted interiors that make everyday living easier and more enjoyable. Starting with sliding wardrobes, it was a natural progression into bespoke bedroom furniture and kitchens as customers looked to us for complete design solutions.

More than 30 years on, what we enjoy most is still the entire design journey. It starts with listening to our customers’ ideas and understanding how they want to live in their space, before turning those ideas into a design that often exceeds their expectations. Whether we’re bringing a customer’s vision to life or showing them possibilities they hadn’t imagined, it’s incredibly rewarding to transform a room into something that’s both beautiful and perfectly suited to their lifestyle.

How would you describe your approach to design and customer service?

Listening is at the heart of everything we do. Our approach to design starts with understanding how our customers want to use their space, rather than offering off-the-shelf solutions. By taking the time to listen, we create designs that are tailored to their lifestyle, making the best possible use of every inch while balancing style with practicality.

That commitment to listening continues throughout the installation. Our team works closely with each customer to fine-tune the finishing touches, whether that’s positioning handles at the most comfortable height or deciding exactly where electrical outlets should be placed for everyday appliances. It’s these conversations, combined with the expertise of our own designers and installers, that ensure every project feels truly bespoke and delivers the best possible experience from start to finish.

Tell us about a project you’re especially proud of, and why…

Our Balerno Kitchen Project is a standout project that highlights our passion for creating spaces that are both beautiful and practical. Working closely with the client, we transformed the property by creating a bright, contemporary kitchen that enhances the way they cook, entertain and spend time together, while reflecting their individual style.

What sets this project apart is the level of design expertise involved in reconfiguring the space. Originally two separate rooms, the kitchen was opened up into one seamless layout, creating a much greater sense of light and flow throughout the home. A bespoke ceiling flyover detail was incorporated to skilfully conceal the room’s supporting beam while mirroring the island and dining areas, creating a striking architectural feature. Every element, from the layout and cabinetry to the finishes and lighting, was carefully considered to achieve a balance of style and practicality. The finished kitchen demonstrates our commitment to thoughtful design, exceptional craftsmanship and delivering bespoke spaces that are tailored to the way our clients live.

What do your customers value most about working with an independent retailer versus a national brand? 

Customers appreciate having a single, experienced team guiding them throughout their project. They value the personal relationship we build with them, the honest advice we provide and the reassurance that the people designing their space are also responsible for delivering it.

Being independent also gives us the flexibility to create truly bespoke solutions rather than working to a standard formula.

What qualities do you look for in a manufacturing partner, and why are those important to your business? 

We look for manufacturers who are reliable, flexible and consistently deliver high-quality products. As many of our projects are made to measure, it’s important that our suppliers can meet bespoke requirements while maintaining excellent standards.

Strong communication and dependable lead times are equally important, helping us deliver the smooth experience our customers expect. 

How does working with Daval help you deliver the best possible experience for your customers?

What are your ambitions for the business over the next few years, and how do you see your partnership with Daval helping you achieve them? 

Our ambition is to continue building on our reputation as one of Scotland’s leading independent kitchen and bedroom specialists while remaining true to the family values and personal service that have shaped the business since 1991.

We’ll continue investing in our people, our showroom and the experience we offer our customers.
